Aeroluxe R66 Turbine Transition Course (Initial)

The R66 Turbine Transition Course (Initial) provides comprehensive training in the Robinson R66, a five-seat, turbine-powered helicopter. Designed for rated helicopter pilots who either lack turbine experience or are new to the R66 model, the course offers:

 6.5 hours of dual flight instruction

6 hours of ground instruction

6.3 hours of pre- and post-flight briefings

Upon successful completion, this course qualifies the trainee for a current flight review.

Enrollment Prerequisites

Applicants must:

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot Rotorcraft-Helicopter certificate
  • Possess a current Third-Class Medical Certificate
  • A current flight review or SFAR 73 endorsements is not required prior to enrollment.

Ground Instruction

Ground instruction is delivered across 3 lessons, each lasting 2 hours, and includes:

• R66 systems overview and technical descriptions
• Powerplant and accessory systems
• Starting procedures
• Aircraft performance and limitations
• Normal and emergency operating procedures
• Pre- and post-flight routines
• Cockpit familiarization
• FAA regulations
• Review of knowledge areas required for a flight review (per 14 CFR 61.56)

Instructor discretion applies in determining satisfactory completion of the flight review
portion.

Flight Instruction

Flight training is spread across 5 flight lessons, concluding with an end-of-course checkride.

Training includes:

Basic Maneuvers
• Straight and level flight
• Climbs, turns, descents
• Takeoffs and approaches
• Rapid decelerations
• Hover and air taxi techniques
• Basic autorotation’s

Advanced Maneuvers
• Advanced and hover autorotation’s
• Slope landings
• Pinnacle landings
• Settling with power
• Hydraulic system failure procedures
• Shallow approach to running landing
• Enroute and off-airport navigation
• Confined area operations
• Inadvertent IMC recovery
• Unusual flight attitude recovery
• Comprehensive emergency procedures

Training Pace & Course Fees

The course can be completed in as little as 3 days or adapted to a more flexible schedule to accommodate the trainee’s availability.

All training hours are based on Aeroluxe Aviation FAA-approved Part 141 syllabus.

The cost of our Inital R66 Turbine Transition including ground instruction and Dual flight training in the R66 is $7500

We also do recurrent training and checkrides for approximately $3200
