Eligibility Requirements
- Age: Be at least 18 years old.
- Medical Certificate: Hold at least a second-class medical certificate.
- Language Proficiency: Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Pilot Certificate: Hold a Private Pilot Certificate with a rotorcraft-helicopter rating
Flight Experience Requirements
- Total Flight Time: 150 hours of flight time, including:
- 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), with:
- 35 hours in helicopters
- 10 hours of cross-country flight in helicopters
- 20 hours of dual flight instruction, including:
- 5 hours of night flying (with 10 takeoffs and landings at an airport)
- 5 hours of simulated instrument flight training
- 10 hours of solo flight, including:
- One cross-country flight of 100 nautical miles
- 5 hours of night flying
Recent Flight Experience
- 3 hours of flight training in a helicopter with an authorized instructor within 2 calendar months of the practical test.
Ground Training and Testing
- Ground School: Advanced instruction on helicopter aerodynamics, FAA regulations, and commercial flight operations.
- Knowledge Test: Pass the FAA Commercial Pilot – Helicopter written exam.
- Practical Exam: Pass the FAA checkride, which includes an oral exam and flight test.
